Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Ali Izadi. I’m 28 years old with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, specializing in energy conversion.

What is your PhD about?

I am pursuing a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, focusing on improving energy harvesting by developing, optimizing, constructing, and testing thermomagnetic generators.

Which university are you studying at?

I am officially enrolled at the Technical University of Dresden, but I am currently conducting my research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR).

What is the official title of your PhD program?

The official title of my PhD program is “Thermomagnetic Harvesting of Low-Grade Waste Heat,” and my thesis is titled “Simulation, Construction, and Evaluation of a Thermo-Magnetic Generator for Low-Grade Waste Heat Harvesting.”

What is your research focus, and how does it connect to your internship at Magnoric?

My research focuses on enhancing thermomagnetic generators to improve their power output and efficiency. This aligns with my work at Magnoric, where I simulate various components of thermomagnetic motors, generators, refrigerators, and energy conversion methods that directly support my academic studies.

What was your first impression of Magnoric?

My initial impression was very positive—the company radiates a culture of innovation and teamwork that made me feel welcome right away. I also appreciate the flexible working hours, which foster a comfortable and productive environment.

What has stood out the most for you since you started your internship?

What has impressed me the most is how Magnoric connects innovative research with practical applications. Seeing advanced scientific ideas transform into real-world technologies is inspiring. I also value the hands-on experience of working on multiple devices, from design and simulation to implementation.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

The welcoming atmosphere stands out the most. Everyone—Rémi, Jean, Myriam, Aline, Dimitri, Michel, and the rest of the team—is friendly, professional, and supportive. Being able to see the full spectrum of thermomagnetic technology, from research to industrial applications, makes this an exciting place to work.

Has anything at Magnoric impressed or surprised you?

I am particularly impressed by how effectively the company enhances its technology through collaboration and communication across teams. This smooth coordination accelerates the transition from scientific research to practical solutions.

Is this your first time in France?

Yes, this is my first time in France.

What were your first impressions when you arrived?

When I arrived in Strasbourg, I was immediately struck by the beautiful historical churches and buildings, the narrow cobblestone streets, the colorful buses, and the painted city trams. The historic landmarks seemed to tell the rich story of the city.

Was there anything that surprised you about French culture, lifestyle, or people?

I observed a vibrant mix of people—from locals to students and visitors—which creates a lively and inviting atmosphere. I was pleasantly surprised by how people celebrate their differences while showing kindness to one another.

How does France compare to your home country?

France and Iran have their differences, but I also notice some similarities—especially the warmth of the people. Both countries value social connections, enjoy long meals with friends, and share a culture of hospitality.

🎯 Looking Ahead

What are your passions or hobbies outside of work and research?

Traveling is my favorite hobby, and since it’s my first time in France, I’m taking advantage of the opportunity to explore both the city and the countryside. I also love watching movies—a true passion of mine.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years, I envision myself leading a research team or managing an R&D department at a respected company. Alternatively, I could be running my own business, focusing on technological innovation in my field.

How do you think this internship will help you in your career?

This internship is helping me build a professional network and understand how to turn scientific research into industrial applications. I’m also gaining leadership experience and expanding my knowledge of sustainable energy solutions.

If you could work anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I value a work environment that promotes a healthy work-life balance. Europe hosts many innovative companies leading the way in science and technology, and I am eager to contribute to one of these forward-thinking organizations.
